Unit 3 - People have the need to communicate.
Pupils in PYP 1 have just completed their third Unit of Inquiry. They learned about Communication and the Central Idea of the Unit was: People have the need to communicate.
They explored the role of symbols in communication and the different ways we can express ourselves when communicating. Pupils went on signs and symbols school hunts, interviewed Mrs Giannetto about the school`s logo, and as a final work chose a way to communicate something to the class. Pupils found out that the shapes on the school logo are actually birds. They also found out that there are birds on the school logo because St. Francis of Assisi loved animals and was caring towards them.
It was a memorable learning journey!

| Maria expressed herself through music by playing the piano. |

| João, Gabriel and Javier expressed themselves through symbols. They created their own symbols for their super heroes. |

| Constanza expressed herself through painting. She painted Never Land from Peter Pan. |
 |
| Philippe and Lorenzo expressed themselves through letters. Philippe wrote the word whale and Lorenzo wrote jellyfish. |

| Sofia, Beatriz, Catharina and Maria Alice expressed themselves by using the American Sign Language. They sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and made the correspondent signs. |
